Back to school?

But it’s okay…It’s okay to not know because that’s what learning is, that’s what life is. After all, it’s September and back to school time for all of us.
Whether we’re in kindergarten or just a bewildered adult, life is all about the learning. And it’s not a waste of time!
Why are we here? Because we have
- lessons to learn
- choices to make
- skills to master
- time to spend
- joy to experience!

And since no one is responsible for grading/judging us, we can take a deep breath, give thanks for being alive and just play/work/grow/live/love/give/..!
What can we do with this opportunity? What gift do we want to give to the world? to the community? to our family? to ourselves?
What do you want to focus on this fall? Picking one goal to focus on is smarter than feeling overwhelmed by trying to do a bunch of them right now. We all know how quickly we can get discouraged if we bite off too much.
- Maybe there’s a skill you’d like to start improving?
- Would a class get you started? a YouTube video? A friend to tutor you? (I’ve got my sister mentoring me as I work on improving my knitting!)
- Maybe there’s an activity you’d like to participate in? (I’m enjoying a twice-weekly Tai Chi practice at the Y!)

Eating that elephant can be done only one bite at a time. And where you choose to start (trunk? tail? leg? side?) is up to you!
Feel free to share what you might choose to start with!
The power of books!
Enjoy this delightful poem originally written for the 59th Anniversary of our National Children’s Book Week back in 1969. I like it! BOOK POWER by Gwendolyn Brooks BOOKS FEED AND CURE ANDCHORTLE AND COLLIDE In all this willful worldof thud and thump and thunderman’s relevance to bookscontinues to declare. Books are meat and medicineand flame […]
Replace those weak words!
Most of us will agree that words have power: the power to inspire, the power to hurt, the power to compel, the power to enrage. We no longer ascribe to the adage that “sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” And yet with some thought, I think we would […]
Wisdom is often funny!
The upside of being a blogger who has just passed yet another milestone birthday is that I get to spout some of my vast accumulated wisdom! (after all, this blog is called WisdomEnough.com) But my accumulated wisdom may only be, as the punsters would say, half-vast. So I’m sharing my foolproof method for acquiring all […]
It’s always a choice!
Everyone (and everything!) can be a valuable lesson if we so choose. And it’s always a choice! Maybe we can not only learn lessons on how to live, but also how not to live our lives! Oscar here shows us how quickly we can change our feelings. He’s a living breathing zen koan, a paradox […]
Playing with words again!
Read until the end to just enjoy our delightful language! This two-letter word in English has more meanings than any other two-letter word. This word is “UP.” This one word in the English language can be a noun, verb, adjective, adverb and preposition. Who knew?! Not this (ex)English teacher! To be knowledgeable about the proper […]
Know this story?
“Once there was a very wise king who spared no effort to teach his people good habits of being industrious and careful. He felt that nothing good could come to a nation whose people complain and expect others to fix their problems for them. One night while everyone else slept, he placed a large stone […]
What are the Dog Days?
It’s summer time (and the living is easy? You know what that means…lots of fun, vacations, picnicking, sunbathing, lazing around. But also, potentially, the utter collapse of any of our momentum and productivity. It’s true, the dictionary even defines the “Dog Days of Summer” as “lethargy, inactivity or indolence.” And it’s from early July to […]
Food for thought…
“One song can spark a moment. One flower can wake the dream. One tree can start a forest, and one bird can herald the spring. One smile can begin a friendship. One hand can lift a soul. One star can guide a ship at sea, and one word can frame the goal. One vote can […]
Summer and the sun…
Summer has finally arrived and it’s time to celebrate! Recent graduates are beginning their new lives, the summer solstice brought the longest day of sunlight to us and the gardens are growing. Let’s commit to enjoying this season. (I recently saw an article that talked about the power of one ray of sunlight. Did you […]
