My mortifying experience at 8 years old!

Posted by Pat on February 1, 2026 in Uncategorized |

I was 8 years old when I was on Art Linkletter’s “Kids Say the Darndest Things” radio program and…was mortified by what my family thought was a scripted response, but wasn’t! (don’t ask me how to spell Mississippi…it really did overflow that day!

So I can really appreciate (and enjoy) some of the following things that other kids have said!

Teacher: How old is your father?

Kid: He is 6 years old.

Teacher: What? How is this possible?

Kid: He became a father only when I was born.

(Logical? of course!)

Teacher: Maria, go to the map and find North America.

Marie: Here it is.

Teacher: Correct. Now, class, who discovered America.

Class: Maria.

Teacher: Donald, what is the chemical formula for water?

Donald: HIJKLMNO.

Teacher: What are you talking about?

Donald: Yesterday you said it’s H to O.

Teacher: Clyde, your composition on “My Dog” is the exactly the same as your brother’s. Did you copy his?

Clyde: No sir, it’s the same dog.

Teacher: Harold, what do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested?

Harold: A teacher.

Since I’ve been both a ‘kid’ and a ‘teacher’, I’ve had these experiences from both sides.

Do you think we enjoy what youngsters often say because maybe we wish we had said that?

    Pat,
I was also on “Kids say the Darndest Things”. Television version. My last name was McCoy, and Art asked me if I was any relation to the McCoy’s, and I said, “No, but I watch them every Thursday night on T.V.
    Many blessings,
    Sandy
