Shift our mindset?

Posted by Pat on January 26, 2025 in Uncategorized |

Am I the only one who has caught myself in a mental loop of negative thinking? Where everyday worries seem to be overwhelming? Thinking of 5 ways something could go wrong instead of right? When the glass seems half empty instead of half full?

Instead of thinking in black or white, positive or negative, good or bad…I am currently intrigued by a philosophy of “Maybe?”

When we find ourselves projecting further calamities, I think it would be really useful to start thinking of other ways a situation might work out. After all, since we’re going to be thinking about future consequences anyway, maybe some of them could be positive!

When we hit a wrinkle in our communication with our friend…

When we fret about some possibly dire political consequences…

Maybe, maybe, maybe…

We can always exercise our choice-making muscles to ensure that our take on life and its varied circumstances will be…

  • as helpful,
  • as strong,
  • as positive as we can make it.

It does mean, of course, that we will no longer choose to see things…

  • as awful,
  • as frightening,
  • as depressing.

We could even choose a middle road, one not so negative, by seeing things…

  • as neutral,
  • as flexible,
  • as possible.

We really can choose to find hope and possibility in uncertain times. (and when isn’t it uncertain?)

Maybe we could all just stop and have some chocolate first before expecting the worst of a situation?

What do you think?
