Not there…yet?

The next time insecurity rears its ugly head, instead of being paralyzed by it, we can use that very feeling as the trigger to tack on the word yet. This word will make all the difference.
Yet takes things from the world of “forever and always” to the world of “temporary and transient.”
After all, just as we know that winning isn’t forever, we can also recognize that loss and failure are equally temporary.
And once we realize that we can get good at anything we’re willing to put the time into, insecurity loses its power. By remembering that we’re simply not good at something yet, we can remember that we are in control. We can decide to get good whenever we want.
The key to making this work for us is truly believe the intoxicating idea that we can acquire any skill to which we set our mind (though maybe we won’t be perfect at it!)
Believing the opposite…that today’s version of myself is the sum total of who I will ever be, just anchors me in insecurity!
For me, I am still putting in more time in order to learn how to do those awkward knit stitches for those impressive cables I want to use in a scarf.

I think it’s important to not focus on what I’m not good at today. That I should/will focus on what I need to do to get better at mastering the skill I’m currently missing. This moves my mind from the self-defeating loop of not being good enough, to the rather empowering mindset of a learner!

So…what have YOU not done YET?
