A lesson from kindergarten…

Here’s a lesson I learned from my childhood …

As I get older, I find myself looking backwards in time for inspiration and lessons from stories, from songs, from clichés  to make my life more fun and more meaningful. (Maybe it comes from having been a teacher? from owning ablog boats bookstore?)

Anyway, here’s my take on the childhood song

“Row, Row, Row Your Boat.”

See what  you make of it!

Row, row, row your boat

Waiting, drifting, wishing won’t get me where I want to go. I need to DO what is in front of me to do. This life is my boat. I need to ROW my boat; direct my life.

And in addition to that, I need to row MY boat, not my husband’s, my children’s, my sisters’! (this is sometimes difficult for me!)

Gently down the stream

Yes! My time here on this planet doesn’t need to be a struggle, to be difficult. Gentle will do it because I can go “with the flow.” It is easier than trying to push against the current to go upstream.

Merrily, merrily, merrily

blog boat3I can pick my attitude. My attitude will affect my experience. And I don’t want to make myself miserable. I can greet my chalIenges with an openness to learning something new or by doing something differently.

I do want to experience my life as HAPPY.

Life is but a dream.

From my current view of life, I see us as spiritual beings having a human experience, to paraphrase Wayne Dyer. And for me, that means that this life is an opportunity to grow, to learn, to make the most of this brief journey.

I have always been intrigued by those books with titles like:

All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergartenblog book cartoon

All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat

All I Need to Know I learned from Kiss

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from a Children’s Book

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from Other Women

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from Peanuts

What are your favorite “learning” resources? Any pop songs? Books that “speak” to you? Fables? Am I alone in this world of “playing” with words, ideas, stories?
