Yellow Miracles
Almost nothing else represents the emergence of spring as the beloved yellow daffodil, happy and bright after its (and my!) long winter’s nap.
I look out into the backyard of my home and see the flowerbed filled with the bright yellow and green of spring.
I think some things on this earth just look as if they were designed to bring happiness to the hearts of humans: thus the daffodil!
The daffodil is abundant and brings gladness as sure as sunshine itself does. It’s as if the sun has shed a layer of skin and fashioned a flower out of it!
Color psychologists tell us that too much yellow can be too stimulating, but in smaller doses inspires hope and good cheer.
I don’t know about the too stimulating, but I do know the daffodil to me is a perfect-sized package of yellow for whenever I may feel glum or energetically low.
Isn’t it amazing how such simple things can have such a great effect? At the moment my favorite color is yellow!
Today, March 20, is the Vernal Equinox this year.
Spring begins!
And today is celebrated as a time of fertility, of rebirth of life and energy. All of us who are gardeners-at-heart are eyeing our flower beds and gardens joyfully!
Not only our physical gardens, but our mental ones as well!
There are
- weeds to be pulled,
- gardens to be planned,
- fertilizer to be spread.
The weeds are our consistent negative thoughts.
The planning is creating our vision.
The fertilizer is the nurturing of our vision with contemplation and prayer.
And we’re not afraid of getting dirty!
Is there something you find in your life that, though simple,
lifts your spirits?

WOW! Perfect thoughts. Since I sold my house, I can’t enjoy the flowers so have to look elsewhere. I remember the daffodils (or yellow jonquils). After the crocus, they were the first spring blooms to emerge. When I was a kid, I took piano lessons and one of my favorite songs to play was about yellow jonquils. So, thanks, Pat, for reminding me. I feel springy today.
By the way, Edgar Cayce said that not only should we smell like dirt, eating a little dirt was good for us.
Mary Kay, I too feel “springy” and glad to be looking ahead at the ever-increasing blossoms, longer days, and the many opportunities to connect with the hope and beauty of life just because it’s Spring!
In California this time of year the hills are covered with acres and acres of blooming poppies. Their glorious rich color to me says spring. I remember laying in the sunshine in the middle of a field of those blooms. A HEAVENLY EXPERIENCE!
Lea, we so often forget how easy it is to experience beauty, joy, and connectedness to our world!
