What’s wisdom got to do with it?
Wanna’ be a “Crone?” or maybe a “Sage?”
To aspire to be a crone or to be a sage is to want the psychological and spiritual growth that they symbolize.
And it has less to do with gender and more to do with
- sharing wisdom,
- using our intuition,
- finding meaning,
- growing into our inner potential.
(I can think of some exceptional men who would qualify as crones such as Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, the Dalai Lama. Can you?)
You may be one or not, but the principles I’m going to share are applicable for each one of us, crone* or not!
*The crone is the woman in her third and final stage of womanhood
with her mastery of life’s experiences.
She is the elder, the wise woman.
She is the third aspect of the ancient Triple Goddess
(with the maiden and the mother being the first and second aspects)
We each have our full lifetime as the material that we have to work with.
Until this life span is over, we are all still in process, in the midst of an unfinished story.
And what we do with our lives is our magnum opus, or great work of personal creativity.
When we acquire a “crones-eye” view, we will see ourselves and others from the perspective of our higher self rather than our ego.
Aging well is a goal worth pursuing.
To be wise, we need to let go of what
- should have been,
- could have been,
- might have been.
We need to silence the whining In our head that might come out of our mouth next!
Crones Don’t Whine.
(that’s the title of this great little book by Jean Shinoda Bolen!)
What was, was.
What is, is.
Plain and simple.
As spiritual beings on a human path, what we do at our soul level in this third phase will likely turn out to be the most important we can do.
Wisdom, compassion, character,
- what we do with the life we were given,
- what we learned, and
- who we have become all matter.
You are stronger, smarter, happier, and wiser!
What will you have chosen to learn?

It all seems so simple. To acquire wisdom, all you have to do is get old. There must be more to it than that. I’m just kidding. On the other hand, I heard a quote that we need to go through the dark places because they can teach us things the light can’t. If you get to be the age of a crone, it must be inevitable that you have gone through some dark places. So how about celebrating the dark places? BTW, today is the lunar new year, the year of the monkey. So maybe we should expect monkey shines this year. After all, we do have an election coming up.
