The yeast in our lives
Mothers teach us to add, adding the ingredients to the recipe. Sisters can teach us how to subtract as they snitch the chocolate chips from the bag. Fathers can teach us how to divide the cake by letting one of us cut it and the other choose their piece first.
But learning how to multiply?
The bread maker in our family can show us multiplication as they knead the dough that is stretched, pushed around, turned over, and slapped into shape. Then the dough is covered and left in a warm place so the magic can happen. Later when we check it, the bread has grown into a big balloon that then gets plopped out onto the floured counter, stretched, slapped, stretched, and slapped again until the dough is a thick flat disc, looking dead!
Then left to rise again, the dough becomes stretchy and strong and ready to become bread. The yeast has done its work.
And the yeast in us is the life force that makes our body grow.
And even more important is the yeast that makes our soul grow!
And though both our body and our soul may feel like they’ve been stretched and slapped around, they both grow through this process that we call life.
We call this yeast love…
love for the people in our family and for our friends. Love for the people in our neighborhood, everywhere, and for all the animals and plants in the world.
We can choose to allow our lives, our experiences, and our feelings to enhance the good that is always available to us and to everyone by choosing to love.
Life is a blessing and is meant to be enjoyed. And when we do, its blessing is multiplied for both us and those around us.
ENJOY IT!
