The tide always comes back
No matter how bad things appear to be now, nature guarantees a turn for the better. Change is always happening. Nature’s cycles are dependable.
- We can’t rush a baby; whenever possible, we have to let it have 9 months to develop.
- We can’t rush a seedling; pulling on it to make it grow faster will cause it to die.
- We can’t rush the tide; it must go all the way out before it will begin to come all the way back in.
The tide in our lives…
Our lives have their ups and downs…it’s the natural rhythm of life. To succeed, we must learn to accept the tide and its ebb and flow.
When we are on a “down,” we need to remember that the up is on its way-just as the tide goes out and comes in again.
We need to look for evidence that things are turning around. If we look carefully, we’ll find that reminder.
If the tide doesn’t seem to turn around as quickly as we hope, we remember that nature takes time and we can simply relax and go with the flow.
(We do, however, need to be willing to let the tide retract completely before expecting it to return again!)
Let’s think about the seed analogy.
- We plant the seed,
- do what is ours to do, and
- trust that something is happening beneath the soil.
One aspect of the natural law, whether tide or seed, is that we need to maintain our peace of mind during the process. We need to calm down and allow nature to run its course.
How can we apply this principle in our lives?
In what dreams, goals, plans in YOUR life can YOU use this reminder?

The good will always come out of the bad is something I have told myself MANY times – you just don’t know when it will come…..just that it WILL! I LOVE your first statement “don’t dig up in doubt what you planted in faith” All very true – patience and faith.
I agree with you totally, Tish. Thank you for posting this Pat! Something will come out of something bad, it’s just that it may not be just how we envisioned it to be or in the time we wanted. We have to be patient. There is a plan, I believe.
Tish, we often have to remind ourselves of these “truths” because they aren’t always self-evident! It does take patience and faith!
One never knows what the tide will bring in.
Thank you for the reminder Pat. Sometimes we forget–The sun WILL RISE AGAIN tomorrow.
Always remind myself not to give up and go back the way I came, because my good may be just around the next corner, and I am soooo close. Never, ever give up.
Mary Kay, Lea AND Meg! Isn’t it fascinating to have so many opportunities to remember the truth. The tide coming in, the sun coming out, and our good just around the corner!
Hi Pat – Thanks for today’s thought. My head knows this but my heart sometimes forgets. Bobbie
