Potholes in life!

Posted by Pat on October 8, 2023 in Uncategorized |

I’ve discovered potholes can be of use. And that’s a good thing, because there seem to be so many of them! We often slow down, become more alert, and drive around them carefully.

As a metaphor, they can make us aware of the places in our lives where we need to exercise care and caution. Sometimes they just happen. The winds, the rains, the normal wear and tear of daily driving/living result in cracks and crevices that require some attention.

Our personal “potholes” can be the result of neglect, abuse and poor foundations. And sometimes they are indicative of too much activity, too much traffic and too little maintenance. We often don’t see them until it’s too late to avoid them.

Does this possibly describe the potholes in your life?

Our path may be littered with potholes…

  • when we break our word to others (or to ourselves),
  • When the sink is full and the dishwasher is empty,
  • when our to-do list is overwhelming, or
  • when our “get-up-and-go” is gone!

Potholes are a fact of life that we can all learn how to navigate. And when the first crack shows up, we need to get it handled. (I don’t think complaining or ignoring works very well!)

So, what can we do about our potholes?

Laugh at them?

Transform them?

Use them?

Fix them?

I suggest we look at our lives and see where our personal potholes are showing up!

And then maybe instead of just trying to drive around them, we will choose to do something about them!

    Pat,
I love your post, it’s a good reminder to stay aware of what is going on around us, and to stay focused on what we do want.
    Love and light,

Transform them. That’s the way it is with other hindrances in our lives.
