Inertia? Idleness? Listlessness?
Are these three words the same as the “lions and tigers and bears, oh my!” from the Wizard of Oz? I hope they’re not going to be my own personal demons!
I do like Garfield’s explanation better!
No, it is physics! (Isn’t it?)
The dictionary defines inertia as:
- lack of movement or activity especially when movement or activity is wanted or needed, and
- a feeling of not having the energy or desire that is needed to move or change.
Does this apply to anyone other than me? I’m bushed. How do you create momentum from inertia?
Has it ever applied to you? How in the world did you climb out of that feeling of listlessness?
I’m experiencing the classic definitions above! I’m sure the law of inertia is going to take some manipulating for me since I’ve been sick this last week!
But…
we just got word that the apartment for our downsizing move is now available!
Hooray!
So…
My apathy, lethargy, and loafing are just going to have to step aside and make room for some diligence, energy, productivity!
Any suggestions?
Have you found a way to motivate yourself from inertia to momentum?
(I’m also open to tips and hints on making the move as easy as possible!)
I do have lists started (easy enough to do, even when tired) and we’ve started collecting boxes. But we’re discovering that downsizing is just that and, of course,
- we have way too much stuff to take it all, and
- apartment kitchens are tiny!
Enough whining, I’m really excited about this change! And it will make our lives easier once completed.
And, I know, that just like this image,
it’s also true that change =enemy of inertia!
I’d love to hear from you…any
empathy?
sympathy?
ideas?
admonitions?

Mom, I’ve been in Inertia for quite some time. You are one step ahead of me, you know the direction you want to go. My suggestion is to start leaning in that direction until gravity and momentum take over. And a few injections of chocolate might help provide the energy needed!
Laurie, yep! I’m all for the gravity and the chocolate! And knowing we have just 2 weeks to move is somewhat daunting? butt kicking? Yep!
I’ve been there, been there, been there. There’s nothing like a commitment to get one moving. I have that to look forward to next spring as I plan to sell my house and rent something. Usually if I have the blahs or inertia or just being lazy, I give in to it if I can, just be lazy, read, drink tea, snooze. I know eventually I will get a burst of energy. Then there are other times I have to make myself do something and once I get started, I’m okay.
Just the cycles of life, makes things interesting.
