I often eat dessert first!

Posted by Pat on September 24, 2023 in Uncategorized |
Just the message you’d expect from a previous chocolate store owner!

(My sister and I were smart enough never to hire the applicant who said “I’d give anything to work in a chocoate store!” for we knew we couldn’t affort the loss of inventory!)

We’ve all been overwhelmed with the messages to take pleasure when and where we can:

  • Don’t worry-BE HAPPY!
  • ENJOY LIFE NOW-this is not a Dress Rehearsal
  • LIVING WELL IS THE BEST REVENGE
  • GO FIRST CLASS or your heirs will.

Why this focus on enjoyment? We’ve got dreams, fantasies, goals that we think we will deserve after…

  • after we lose that twenty pounds…
  • after we find the perfect mate…
  • after the kids leave…
  • after we retire.

And this all equals a postponed life with our shoulder to the wheel and our nose to the grindstone, uncomfortable and hard work.

  • The American work-ethic, is alive and well.
  • The human procrastination gene, is alive and well.
  • The belief that we don’t really deserve it, is alive and well.

To enjoy our life more fully we should increase our ability to gladden our moment-by-moment and day-to-day experiences. We could either live this day as if it were our last (and connect, love, enjoy the moments) or we could live this day as if it were our first (and anticipate our good, know that this day is a clean slate, and start as we mean to go on.)

And since a heavy heart is the most serious form of overweight, eating dessert first may well be the ultimate lighten up message!

(You did know that “stressed” is “desserts” spelled backwards, right?)

There’s a message here somewhere! Give a quick comment below and share what resonates with you!

I did not know that stressed is desserts spelled backwards!
My granddaughter did not know that she is a palindrome either.
She was mightily upset when I first told her.

Very good read. I know how you can tell desserts from desert, Dessert has more esses, because you want more desserts.
