Do you have “Triskaidekaphobia?”
Triskaidekaphobia is fear of the number 13 and avoiding using it.
Think hotels with no 13th floor!
Who knew that this fear appears to be rooted in pre-Christian traditions, when the Norse god Loki invited himself to the Banquet of Valhalla, becoming the 13th guest. His mischief caused the death of Baldr, a favorite of the gods.
Early Christian traditions also highlight 13 as an unlucky number. Christ’s betrayer, Judas, may have been the 13th to join the table at the Last Supper.
And THIS Friday is Friday the 13th!
It is also a reason for the fear of Friday the 13th, called paraskevidekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia.
I can’t even pronounce, let alone, spell these words!
So I’ve decided I DON’T have them!
In fact, I’ve often said that if everyone else is
claiming bad luck on that day, I’ll take all the unclaimed GOOD luck!
And isn’t it great that the very next day is Valentine’s Day, the day we celebrate love, the opposite of fear!
The one thing most of us want more in life is love.
And one of the most valuable personal development principles I was ever taught was:
- Don’t want what you want.
- That will only create more want.
Instead:
Give what you want. That starts the process of creating it.
So think about it-what do you want?
Confidence? Then go bolster the confidence of someone else.
Money? Give money to support someone or something else.
Courage? Go encourage someone else.
Love? Give love to someone else.
Do this and you will have started your creation process.
After all confidence, money, courage, and love (plus lots of other goodies!) already exist in abundance in our world.
We just need to
- put ourselves in the flow,
- participate in the circulation,
- and remember to choose what we wish to experience more of.

If “like begets like”, I’ll go with you to claim all the good luck on Friday! We will be swamped in it!
Great Ideas! I’ll take a share of that good luck as well.
Theresa AND Sandy, I think that there’s lots and lots of good luck in this world of ours and it is only right that we claim our share!
I don’t have to worry about Friday the 13th !! Luck and love have a lot to do with it. Friday the 13th of November, 1964, is the day I was lucky to have friends set me up with a blind date of a girl (happily) who had no date that night. We have been going steady since !! And married 46 years this April. Spread the word – Friday the 13th is a lucky day filled with lots of love.
Earl, congratulations on your luck and your love. It sure all worked out well for you two!
I have no fear of numbers. I do know that what I want must be claimed. If I don’t, how will the universe know where to deliver it?
Meg, Knowing that we must be clear on what we want, claiming it, and sharing it in advance with gratitude marks out our path to happiness. Now we just need to remember it!
Lots of “food for thought” and your answer to Meg is right on. I have never been afraid of numbers as I believe we are more in charge of what happens to us, and we must make our own decisions. Yes, bad luck will happen – it’s just a part of living, but I certainly don’t want to look for it!
Tish, someone said that good luck is when preparedness meets opportunity. And I really do believe that we create our experiences by what we choose to think, say, and do.
