Change the clocks…again?
Well, did you “fall back” today? After all, it’s the end of Daylight Savings Time for this year.
I love this image as it questions our “logical” minds!
(How long is your blanket?)
Did we really gain an hour of daylight this year? Is it just a metal illusion, a trick we play on ourselves?
Benjamin Franklin first thought of the idea to have another hour during the day to enjoy the sunny summer afternoons by moving our clocks forward an hour in the spring to give the farmers more sunlight for farming.
But there are some valiant folks who have chosen not to! Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii and the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa are the only places in the US that stay on “standard time” all year long. If you’ve spend any time in the sweltering summer sun in those regions you understand why their residents don’t want another hour of sunlight!
So…what are you planning to do with your extra length of blanket?
After all, if everything is in our minds, we do have lots of options!
Maybe you’d like to use it to start a new habit with that extra morning hour and not sleep in? You could start an exercise routine, a meditation practice, a “fun” reading time that you haven’t been able to work into your day (up until now!)
Morning is a great time to form a regular habit, because self-control is high, there are fewer distractions, and it’s highly predictable!
Here are two of my favorite reminders!
What will work for you?
