The Force Awakens?

Have you seen the trailer for the new Star Wars movie being released this month?
The title, The Force Awakens, got my attention as I thought about the “Force” and the fact that it is already awake. It always has been and always will be.
It is we who must awaken to the Force.

Many of us are interested in the metaphysical concept of the one Force in the universe. And we know that the purpose of our spiritual journey is not to make anything happen or to stop anything from happening.

Our purpose is to wake up to what’s already happening.

Think of Yogananda’s  organization, Self-Realization Fellowship, which means we are here to recognize who we are. It’s not “The Self-Improvement Fellowship” or the “Self-Repair Fellowship.”

It reminds us that when we recognize our identity as spiritual beings, we are home.

 spiritual beings

The Force first described by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi is as an energy field created by all living things, that surrounds and penetrates living beings and binds the galaxy together. It is a binding, metaphysical, and ubiquitous power in the fictional universe of the Star Wars galaxy created by George Lucas.

The line “May the Force be with you” has become part of the pop culture vernacular and has even achieved cult status among fans.

When we tell someone, “May the Force be with you,” we are offering a half-blessing, leaving open the possibility that the Force may not be with you.

A more powerful blessing would be spoken in the star wars form of an affirmation: “The Force is with you.”

The Force is not only with us. It is in us and all around us. There is no place the Force is not. Ultimately the Force is you, is me, is us.

Thanks to George Lucas and his group for bringing a powerful principle to our culture!

We can enjoy the movie while experiencing the truth!

Lovin’ Life

We often need the reminder that gratitude is an attitude we carry with us throughout the day, not just in the few minutes we spend noting items in a gratitude journal and not just one day in November!   How can we spread gratitude around as we enjoy our days? Three simple techniques are: learn the […]

To read or not to read…is that the question?

Posted by Pat on November 15, 2015 in Uncategorized |

Don’t just go and stand in your library. That won’t make you a reader any more than standing in the garage will make you a car! The only way to get the benefits of reading is to buy a book-and then read it!   Do you remember when I shared these less-than-ideal facts about reading? […]

The changing of “your” season?

Posted by Pat on November 8, 2015 in Uncategorized |

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 Even the flu?! We are bombarded in our culture with information, immunization, medication, and expectation regarding the annual flu season. (And, yes, I got my shot!) We expect it every year, see lots of ads, compare symptoms… but instead, […]

Logic? What logic?

Posted by Pat on November 1, 2015 in Uncategorized |

Well, did you “fall back” today? After all, it’s the end of Daylight Saving Time. I love this image and it’s questioning of our logical minds!  How long is your blanket? Did we really gain an hour of daylight? Is it just an “mental” illusion, a trick we play on ourselves?  Benjamin Franklin first thought […]

What day is today?

Posted by Pat on October 25, 2015 in Uncategorized |

Does your mood depend on what day today is? Or does your day depend on your mood? Is it a “TGIF” or “hump” day? Is it delightful or dismal? How about telling yourself each morning as you get up that this is a: Marvelous  (or miserable?) Monday, Terrific (or terrible?)Tuesday, Wonderful  (or weary?) Wednesday, Tremendous […]

Is it art? You be the judge!

Posted by Pat on October 18, 2015 in Uncategorized |

There is fascinating research saying that 98% of us test as highly creative at the age of five, and by age twenty-five, only 2% of us test that way. Since this is the month of Halloween, I’ve just started seeing photos of what are really creative jack-o-lanterns! Instead of the traditional faces that my sisters […]

Your life is a symphony…

Posted by Pat on October 11, 2015 in Uncategorized |

Tuesday night was the opening concert of the Walla Walla Symphony for this season. And it was great with Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, and Leonard Bernstein as well as Stephen Beus’ piano playing! We can consider our lives as a symphony, knowing that before the first note is played, the composer has a purposeful vision for the result […]

Do you fill your bowl?

Posted by Pat on October 4, 2015 in Uncategorized |

In our culture, our instinct is to fill the bowl. We’re used to having a coffee that nearly reaches the rim or a level of debt that’s just below our debt limit. If we don’t want to risk spilling the hot coffee or be caught with not enough credit to handle an unexpected crisis, then, we […]

Looking for Something to Believe in?

We all make choices! And they can change our lives. Join with me in contemplating the following possible beliefs! Can you choose just one?!                       And, of course, there has to be one choice about chocolate!           It’s amazing how many […]
