Are you focused on G.I.F.T.S ?
The holiday season provides us with the all important reminder to reflect on all that is truly important in our lives.
To get the most out of this holiday season, we can turn our attention towards G.I.F.T.S.
G for Giving: We may all have hit the shopping sales to purchase gifts. However, the “gift” of giving can be an empowering experience if you give to those who will give you “nothing” back.
Did you/can you reach out to the Christian Aid Center, the Salvation Army, seniors in nursing homes, folks who are often forgotten during the holidays?
I for “You, Yourself”: Remember to tell yourself “I will eat healthy food, exercise, allow myself some vital R&R in order to have a sane holiday season.” You can’t give energy you don’t have.
F for Family & Friends: The inner circle of people who are most important in our lives can often be defined by those on our holiday card list. Take your caring to the next level. Give someone a call, not just a card, that you won’t see this season.
T for Thankful: Take out a piece of paper and at the top write “I am thankful for…” Then ask yourself how many things you’d think you’d be able to write down. Put that number in the upper left corner of that page. Your goal is to double that number and you will be surprised at how easy it will be. Doing this exercise in writing will demonstrate that the number of things you are thankful for far exceeds your initial projection.
S for Sharing: Sharing can have different meaning for each person. For children, sharing can mean giving up a favorite toy for their sibling or friend to play with. Adults may volunteer their time for a local charity.
In every case sharing involves the interaction of two or more people. During the holiday season, we all share in celebrating life, cherishing the memories of those no longer with us, and creating new memories with those around us.
Let this be the season we really “get it!”
We get that without love and caring, without giving and sharing we are left with a “is that all there is?” feeling.
That with the love and caring, giving and sharing, we are blessed with the peace, the awareness that this life is filled with gifts, seen and unseen!
Have a blessed season!
P.S. I guess I coasted on my success last week of 6 20-minute time outs!
‘Cause this week I only had 4! And even though the goal was/is 5, I can’t really count the extra one from the previous week to make this last week okay.
So…This week is my chance to prove myself! 5 it will be!
