And then it’s winter

Posted by Pat on January 31, 2016 in Uncategorized |

blog agingYou know…time has a way of moving quickly and catching us unaware of the passing years.

It seems just yesterday that I was young, embarking on my life. Yet in a way, it also seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went.

I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and glimpses of my hopes and dreams of that earlier time.

But, here it is…the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise.

How did I get here so fast?

Where did the years go?

I remember seeing older folks through the years and thinking that they were years away from me.

But, here it is…my friends are retiring and getting gray. They move slower. Some are in better and some in worse shape than me. Like me, their age is beginning to show and now we are “those older folks” that we used to see.

And so…I now have entered into this new season of my life not really prepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do those things that I wish I had done but never did.

The blessing is that with the vantage point of all my years of experience I see a tapestry woven by

  • the choices I made,
  • the people I befriended,
  • the places I went,
  • the music I listened to,
  • the books I read,
  • the creativity I chose to express.

And, as I shared last week, I know that “All is well.”

We have all been blessed

  • to live,
  • to live now,
  • to live here,
  • to be connected to everyone around us,
  • to live surrounded by beauty and love and wisdom.

Winter has come and however long it will last, I life in years quoteplan to wring the last drop of juice from the experience!

Life is good, better than I ever imagined as a young adult.

(you know the secret about winter is that

it is part of the cycle of life,

the cycle of the seasons,

and melds right into spring!)

So, whatever your season of life, I hope you are living it to the fullest!

Relish it!

Relax into it!

Revel in it!

Rejoice throughout it!

What do you do to make today your best day,

this week your best week,

this month your best month,

this season your best season?

You’ve said it so well. I would only add that in any season of life: “Love is all that matters”.
