English teachers get a lot of book reports to read…
such as the following “book report” from the 2022 book The Real Dada Mother Goose: A Treasury of Complete Nonsense by Jon Scieszka!
Do you remember this old nursery rhyme?
Book Report:
“The main character in this nursery rhyme is Jack. There is also a burning candlestick. Jack is nimble. Jack is quick. Jack sees the candlestick, and jumps over it. While it is burning.
I liked this rhyme because there was some good action.
I did not like this rhyme because you don’t really know what happened in the end. Like did Jack get burned? Did the candlestick get knocked over?
You will never know.”
Okay, so maybe it’s not just the ex-English teacher in me that loves this!
It could also be the ex-bookstore owner, don’t you think?
